Suggestion by Ed Erhart (WMF) (2025-01-21)

Planning for m:Wikipedia 25 is kicking off. Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 20:18, 21 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@JPxG: I'm not sure if you or anyone else has seen this suggestion and the one above it. Ed Erhart (WMF) (talk) 06:08, 7 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Gråbergs Gråa Sång (2025-02-09)

[edit]

"Even Wikipedia recognises the gravity of the situation its contributors in Belarus now face, to the extent that they have overridden their own protocols and deleted the entire edit history for Belarus-related articles that could land its users in trouble." That's interesting. From Novaya Gazeta. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 17:20, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Ham II (2025-02-10) Suggestion

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... Jordan Prosser (10 February 2025), "Want to know how the world ends? Try this Wikipedia page", The Guardian. One for In the media (probably the In brief section). Ham II (talk) 15:09, 10 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Srf123 (2025-02-19)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... this news article - Remove derogatory and objectionable reference from Wikipedia about Sambhaji Maharaj: Fadnavis

Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has asked Maharashtra police to remove "derogatory and objectionable references" about Sambhaji in Wikipedia.

Suggestion by Viriditas (2025-03-01)

[edit]

There's something odd about the font used to overlay the images on the main Signpost page (within the Signpost/snippet template). I think it's supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek, retro call out or homage to Web 1.0 graphic design, and I get that, but the readability of the font is lacking due to the fat (or bold) typeface. It would help if there was increased legibility in the font. Viriditas (talk) 23:01, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Lupe (2025-03-03)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... the Museum of all Things. Someone mentioned it in the German Signpost equivalent and someone should do so here as well! So far it only has an English version anyways.

The Signpost should write about:

Nice to see appreciation for Wikipedia's coverage of restaurants!

[edit]

The Signpost should write about xkcd's Wikipedia Omniroll – "a cylindrical food containing one layer of every item from the Wikipedia article List of rolled foods".

Suggestion by Gråbergs Gråa Sång (2025-03-10)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about...

Kjersti Flaa broke through the WP:N wall, mainly by being BLP2E. At least an editor currently blocked thought so[1], but personally I agree. Flaa has been vaguely connected to something WP calls It Ends with Us controversy (no, I never heard about that either). She made a YT-video about being on WP[2] which has 3 628 comments atm, and the WP-article about her has been mentioned in Verdens Gang:[3] Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 05:30, 10 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Seefooddiet (2025-03-19)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... [4] Shameless self-plug about an article in The Korea Times about me and a bunch of Wikipedia articles I wrote in the List of oldest restaurants in South Korea. Think suited for the "In brief" section of "In the media".

Could use this as a base (it's really boring because I'm boring, feel free to spice it up).

seefooddiet (talk) 00:34, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Seefooddiet By the way, I requested this above! Good stuff ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:46, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
oop just spotted, thanks :) seefooddiet (talk) 01:03, 19 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Seefooddiet @Another Believer Although it's been a while, I'm happy to let you know we're including a short blurb about your interview in the ITM column for the upcoming issue. Well done! Oltrepier (talk) 13:09, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Relativity (2025-03-24)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... something along the lines of a thank you to the WMF/Jimbo for keeping Wikipedia safe and free.

Suggestion by Feed Me Your Skin (2025-04-10)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about...

I wrote a blogpost where I go over the entire Wikimedia movement and explain how it all works, including (but not limited to) Wikipedia, which I think that it's something that the community would find interesting.

Short draft:

User:Feed_Me_Your_Skin has written an article detailing the entire Wikimedia movement. It goes over the main projects, the software behind the Wikimedia projects, the role of the Wikimedia foundation in managing the movement, and more. To the best of the author's knowledge, this is the most in-depth document that has ever been written about Wikimedia. The author hopes that this article will help spread awareness about the more obscure aspects of Wikimedia and make people more familiar with the other projects. Whether or not you're new to Wikipedia or if you're a seasoned Wikipedian, the author is confident that everybody will find something in this article that they find interesting. To read it, click the following link: [5]. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Feed Me Your Skin (talkcontribs) 01:21, 10 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Feed Me Your Skin: Thanks for suggesting. Tell me more about what you want to happen next. I will suggest two routine options, but you can also suggest any other idea you have.
  1. The Signpost links to your blog post in the "brief notes" section of the regular "News and Notes" column. See examples at the bottom of [[Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2025-04-09/News_and_notes]
  2. You apply an open copyright license to your post, and you yourself format it into a "community view" article so that readers can access it in the newspaper itself without clicking through to a link. If you want that option, go to Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/Newsroom, find "community view", and "start article".
I appreciate the research you did and you making a submission here. Let me know if I can support further. Bluerasberry (talk) 14:26, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll format it as a community view article, although I'd still like to add a link showing that the article was taken from my blog if that's allowed. Feed Me Your Skin (talk) 01:09, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Feed Me Your Skin: this will keep things tidy, if you don't mind. When you are ready, go to WP:NEWSROOM and scroll down to Community view. Click the blue box that says "create article". That will preload a page with formatting that we need in The Signpost. You can save it and edit it at will up until you feel ready to declare it ready for staff to edit. Thanks! ☆ Bri (talk) 01:28, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion by Another Believer (2025-04-17)

[edit]

The Signpost should write about... File:Wikipedians by number of edits (2014-2025).webm. Pretty cool! ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:31, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer Done! You'll find a short blurb in the N&N column for the next issue.
@Panamitsu Thank you so much for your service! Oltrepier (talk) 20:56, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If The Signpost does want to write about the graph, could we wait a bit? I'm currently making a video showing data from 2002 which would be much more interesting, so it'd be better to use that video. I'll let you know once I've finished that one. ―Panamitsu (talk) 23:05, 19 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Another Believer and Oltrepier, I've just updated the video to include data going back to 2002. There are some weird things going on at the beginning, with edit counts decreasing for a bit so I've tried to explain why that happened in the description on Commons. Here is the new video: File:Wikipedians By Number Of Edits (2002-2025).webm. ―Panamitsu (talk) 09:45, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, because I downloaded old revisions of the list of Wikipedians by number of edits page to get this data, there were a few pieces of vandalism in the dataset (I tried to avoid this, but once all the data was downloaded and I realised that I didn't do it right, I didn't want to download it again). This meant that at one point one of the top Wikipedians by edit count was "your mom". But I went through and removed the vandalism. ―Panamitsu (talk) 09:48, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Panamitsu Thank you for clarifying, I've just updated the blurb accordingly! Oltrepier (talk) 10:31, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
